IT’S HERE!!!!

The new book, CHARON’S BLADE, is available NOW!!   You can go to MichaelJAlcorn.com and get a version of it there. Or, it is also available at Amazon.com for both dead-tree versions and for Kindle.  Or, if you live close (in Arvada, Colorado or thereabouts) I will have hard copies soon that I can distribute.

VERY EXCITING TIMES, let me tell you. Takes a lot of work to get one of these out. Writing it is, quite literally, only the beginning.

And thank everybody for their continued support of my writing efforts and this crazy dream of mine.

Much more to say in the days and weeks to come!  Enjoy!

Some Quick Updates and Other Pointlessness

Hey!  It’s been a while, I know…

I put up a little teaser back in May, and then I went dark. Hate when that happens, don’t you? So here’s the updates….

First of all, on the writing itself, Book #7 is now about 57,000 words in. That puts it well longer than both novellas (#1 and #3), longer than Gameplan (#4), but well short of where Enemies (#2) came in. It’s a little different, too–if not fully in the genre, it at least has a nod to the Young Adult genre. And it’s a thriller. I’m pretty excited about it. I haven’t even done the first proof yet, though, so that one’s probably about six months out.

After that, who knows? Maybe… a sequel?

A sequel to what, you might ask. A sequel to what is most exciting right now–Book # 5 is in pre-production!! What is pre-production? It means many of the pieces for actual printing are in place, but not all of them, and some are in the works. Which is a nice way of saying that there is no timeline for the actual printing of this one, but I am working my way down the path to having a new book in print soon!!  I am committed to that path of action.

VERY EXCITING TIMES!!

Just wanted to let everybody know that I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth and new works are coming soon! If you want to know more, message me–I’d love to make contact with my readers!

Do People Really Change? [a teaser]

That is one of my favorite subject matters. Are the patterns of behavior that we set for ourselves permanent, or can we change them, absent a major trauma? And what sort of thing causes that?

One of the great surprises I’ve enjoyed from Hollywood in the last 15 years was a nice little film called “A Walk to Remember.” It starred pop princess Mandy Moore as the preacher’s daughter, and it was the story of a punk kid who get assigned “probation” by having to spend time with the “nerds,” of whom Moore was one. Long story short, he ends up falling for her, but she holds to her values, and in so doing, forces him to change.

I like this movie because, underlying it all, is the idea that great character has the power to change hearts, and Faith is central to having great character.

That is the central idea I explore in my new novella, “The First Cut,” coming in three weeks. I’ll keep ya’ posted on my progress!

Excerpt from “Gameplan”

Have you ever made a mistake just because you were operating on a faulty premise? Hell does that, too. Turns out God is very unpredictable….. ; )

“It doesn’t have to make sense to us. I’ve been studying Him, trying to get a grip on His methods, and I really think, when the end comes, He’s going to try to save as many as He can, even if it means abandoning large blocks of people.”

“So, what does that look like?”

She pauses, looks up at some point above him, and talks through her thoughts slowly. “Well, for one thing, it’s unlikely that there would be a massing of His forces—certainly nothing that would be easy for us to detect.”

He just shakes his head, confused. “Okay. Whatever. What good would that do Him?”

“His angels go to protect the people who need guarding—and not from pain or death. From doubt and crises of faith.”

“So He’s okay with us taking the lives of His people, dominating the spaces that we occupy and having control, as long as His people don’t, what?, think they’re losing?”

She smiles a patient smile at him, then “A lost life of one of His people is a soul happy in Heaven. All they have to do is maintain their faith through the process and He saves them—brings them home.”

The Administrator pauses to consider this information, so counter-intuitive to his way of thinking.
